Weekend travel advisory: Visitors who need to travel on/off the mountain are advised to take the less traveled routes of Highway 38 to Redlands through Mentone and Highway 18 to Lucerne Valley, both located at the east end of the Valley. There are three routes in and out of the Big Bear Valley, however the most frequently traveled route by visitors is Highway 18 to San Bernardino through Running Springs, known as the front grade. When holiday weekend traffic is excessive, traveling the front grade can add hours to your drive time. Both Highway 38 and Highway 18 through the back route offer scenic views of the San Bernardino mountains with less traffic and will connect you to major L.A. freeways. That is why “The Bear” says East is Least for weekend traffic.

For specifics on Saturday morning (September 6) road closures within the Big Bear Valley, resulting from the Big Bear Marathon, visit our Local News page.
